Hey everyone!
Well, it's that time again. Another 26 foot (8 meter) truck loaded to the brim with just about all of our furniture. We have only a little bit left, but it's still surprising how much stuff we have even after moving only 4 years ago. Good problem to have though, really.
This truck is newer than the last one, only 11k miles and it has USB ports for charging. Newer as it is, the damn thing whistles like mad if the fresh air vent is open. So either I can't hear my audiobook, or the air gets stuffy. This is a less good problem to have.
A funny (?) thing happened on the way. Apparently the previous renter was driving at night, and had dimmed the instrument panel all the way. I found the button for it, and cranked it back up. For a time, all was good. Then night started creeping as I drove, and the dome light was on. None of the buttons in the whole thing would turn it off, so I pulled off the road and called U-Haul.
The U-Haul folks were nice and understanding, but none of them could help. Some web searches I could do on my phone were unsuccessful, and even the road assistance folks had no idea. The guy I got even said they had this call from others before. While on the phone, I started messing with even things I didn't expect (wipers, high-beams, tow/haul, etc.) would do anything. LO AND BEHOLD it was the stupid dimmer. This is the best I can do, because I didn't take a picture and I'm already comfortable, but this is essentially what the stupid thing looks like:
The top and bottom can be pressed, but have 2 stopping points. Apparently you press lightly on the top to brighten the instrument panel, but if you press hard you turn on the dome light. Opposite to turn it off/dim.
ANYWAY that's about enough fun in the truck today. The parking lot here is almost totally empty, which is fantastic for parking that thing.
Goodnight all!
