Well, we did it. Sasha and I have sold our home in San Jose, and are moving to Virginia!
Today, I embarked on the first of several cross-country trips as we start our move. This one's a solo trip while Sasha continues packing up the rest of our belongings and takes care of the kitties. I'm driving U-Haul's biggest truck, a 26 foot beast. It's a pain to turn, and it's totally gutless because it's hauling an entire 2-car garage full of our crap, but it is surprisingly comfortable to drive.
I just arrived in Kingman, AZ, which is along historic Route 66 for the first evening. I'll be heading to New Mexico tomorrow and further over the next few days, going about 8-10 hours per day. The drive here from the Bay Area has been thankfully uneventful. Some heavy rain, but good visibility and nothing the truck couldn't handle.
I'm excited about this trip, partly because the farthest I've ever driven before this was to visit a friend near White Sands, NM when I was around 18-20 years old. But the real excitement is the anticipation of starting this new chapter together with the woman of my dreams.
I'm signing off for tonight, so I can get some rest and do it all again tomorrow.
