One month moved and settling in

It's been hard to find the mindset to write my thoughts down, but so much has happened that I wanted to update folks on our move.

We've been here just about a month now, and so far it's great. I know the newness of everything will wear off after a while, but it feels nice to be enjoying so much of what I see.

We picked up the last of our possessions from the storage facility a couple days ago. All of our things are finally here at the house with us. Despite still walking through a few box mazes while we get furniture moved and such. We're also hanging some of our art, which really makes things feel homey.

The wildlife is abundant here. We had as many as 9 deer at the same time in our yard. After a few dry days and a shower, we had what must have been 50 birds (cardinal, I think Sasha said) feasting on the worm smorgasbord. As we were on our way back from a shopping trip yesterday, we saw a bright red cardinal! The contrast against the brown backdrop of the hibernating woods was striking.

I can't get over how much water there is here. Streams, rivers, and lakes everywhere. And the hills are just captivating to me. Just driving a half hour in any direction takes you over hills and down gently winding roads.

The weather is all over the place too. In the time we've been here there have been several small snow storms, a nice wind gust day, a few blocks of rain (one's been happening since last night), and even a couple "warm" days (low 70s F/23ish C). It is unpredictable compared with the bay area, even with the forecast in hand. Part of the reason is that hilly geography I suspect.

Sasha has had some incredible ideas about decorating our home, and it's been a lot of fun browsing the aisles in Lowes or on our computers. We have a ton in common as far as our style likes, which makes things even easier.

Our cats are generally adjusting well, all things considered. The four male kitties are quite happy to eat and hang out together. They don't all wrestle, just in pairs while the other pair watches 😸

It's not all fun and games though. We had a tussle between Fluffy (maine coon male) and Foxy (tortoise shell calico female). While Foxy looks small, she's fierce and fast. She handed Fluffy his ass on a platter. However, as I intervened to force a separation Fluffy only saw a new target and he bit the hell out of me:
Exhibit A: Fluffy's an asshole when he's riled up
also, sorry it's blurry, I can't be arsed to redo it
All good though, we're all learning boundaries and figuring things out while we get nested. I'm looking forward to what the next month brings us, and all those that follow.

The first draft said the red bird was a robin, not a cardinal like it is. I'm not a birdologist!
