I'm back on the road this week, with the final load of stuff from California.
The past couple days have sucked, but not because of the drive. My stepdad Bob had a stroke a couple days back, and even though the updates from the medical staff were really fast, anything longer than instant is too long when it's someone you love.
The good news today is that he's already doing much better. A lot of his confusion is gone, and he's already able to do some stuff that he wasn't able to just 12 hours ago.
I'm really glad he's doing better, and it's a stark reminder of how fleeting life can feel.
On to the lighter stuff...
When I got to Kingsman AZ yesterday, the hotel was walking distance from a Del Taco. It was probably the last chicken soft taco I'll eat anytime soon. Glorious, yet awful. Such is fast food. Also, my CPAP has a filter so I won't even gas myself 😁
At Sasha's recommendation, I went to check out a big-ass hole in the ground. I mean, it's got a better name than that (https://www.meteorcrater.com/), but it's still a hole.
I was much more taken aback than I anticipated. I looked at it on maps and on the pictures Sasha took, but the scale was staggering. It's almost 1.2 km wide (around 3/4 mile) and the scopes they had to check out the stuff in it really put it into perspective.
At the site they had a bunch of very cool stuff showing different weights of rocks, history of meteorites, and geological things in general.
I'm in Santa Rosa NM again, and am going to wander to grab a bite to eat. Carbs = sleep.
I should be home in a few days, and am looking very much forward to not driving for a while.
Laters!
